Small Town Americans Conquering Stockholm

As I said in my last blog. Pite IF is now on break and has been for about a month now! We start practice again on Monday the 11th. Until then my parents came to Sweden and we are touring around trying to understand the Swedish way of life!

We just finished Stockholm and on the train to Gothenburg as I type. Stockholm was an amazing city full of culture, history and people who meet the typical Swedish sterotype!

First we took the “Under the bridge tour” and really got acquainted with Stockholm from the water point of view. It was a two hour boat ride and it went around the entire mainland. Best thing for us to do first because we saw where everything was located so when we walked we knew exactly where to go! All I really needed to find was the shopping....hahha! As we were on the boat we had headphones on listening to the history and facts about each individual building we came across. Very cool!

My favorite fact I learned was: How vikings in Stockholm were what Americans know as Pirates!

My moms favorite thing she learned was about the little houses that were rented out to plant flowers and grow vegetables. They started out for the poor workers back in the earlier times and now they are highly sought after by people who want gardens.

My father was very impressed with how old Stockholm is compared to the US. Stockholm was founded around 1000AD and the US around 1776. (estimated years)

A few things that my parents were astonished by were the bathrooms and each bathroom has its own individual stall, how you pay for the hotel after you have stayed there instead of when you arrive, how family oriented Sweden is, seeing a lot of men with children without the women and the biggest thing my parents laughed about were the men wearing capri pants! I find it highly attractive and stylish but my parents are not use to seeing that. I am trying to get my dad to buy a pair! A picture my mom took of a guy her age wearing capri pants....they laughed about this for a while

Overall we are having such a great time and really enjoying the Swedish food and way of life. We have lots more to experience in Gothernburg and Copenheagan and of course PITEA!!! Really excited to show my parents my life in Pitea.

Enjoy the following pictures of our Stockholm adventure
